Job summary

Hill Crest Behavioral Health Services is a full-service psychiatric hospital in the Greater Birmingham area. The Food Service Worker position serves food to employees, guests, and patients under the Dietary Supervisor, with a focus on age-appropriate care across pediatric to geriatric populations.

Applicants must hold ServSafe / Food Handler Certification and be available for an 8‑business day orientation from 8a‑4p.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or GED preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of kitchen equipment.
  • One year experience in quantity food preparation; Food Handler Card or ServSafe Certification preferred.
  • Must be familiar with standardized recipes and food products.
  • Basic computer skills; read, write, perform simple calculations and follow instructions.
  • Relates to and provides for the needs of patients by age and culture.
  • Formal on-the-job training in food preparation, cooking, quantities, storage, sanitation and safety.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Food Handler Card or ServSafe Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares cafeteria counter for each meal and morning and afternoon breaks as assigned.
  • Ensures that all containers are stocked with clean dishes, trays, silverware, cups, etc.
  • Serves employees and guests in the cafeteria line; greets patrons and observes portion control.
  • Cleans tables and chairs after each meal, as assigned.
  • Prevents run-outs by informing cooks ahead of time of items needed.
  • Maintains proper temperatures for hot and cold foods.
  • Maintains cafeteria counter in a clean, neat, orderly manner.
  • Fills and stocks condiments during the meal service.
  • Records number of patrons for each meal.
  • Assists with sanitation of cooking and serving utensils.
  • Fills all floor supply requisitions.
  • Maintains cooking area in a clean, neat, orderly manner.
  • Successful completion of demonstrational competencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned/required by this position.
