Overview

The Food Service Supervisor provides oversight and direction to teams responsible for patient/resident, retail, and catering services (as applicable). They coordinate and lead, in conjunction with others on the department management team, to ensure that all meals are prepared and served in accordance with food safety regulations and guidelines as well as meeting therapeutic nutritional guidelines. Able to lead and engage a diverse team, providing the necessary training required to execute specific position requirements while assisting them to work toward their full potential.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring efficiency in kitchen/retail operations by following established workflow processes, scheduled hours, and documentation of all food safety and sanitation protocols.
  • Demonstrating positive customer service behaviors and striving to meet/exceed customer/patient needs.
  • Ensuring compliance with all regulatory and safety regulations, maintaining a safe work environment, and addressing variances or noncompliance issues.
  • Developing and educating staff on policies, procedures, and best practices, and engaging in onboarding to reduce turnover.
  • Utilizing technology to increase efficiency, including Food & Nutrition software, patient electronic health systems, and others.
  • Maintaining food costs and inventory accuracy, monitoring food and supply usage for billing purposes.
  • Promoting teamwork and assisting co-workers, including staff relief coverage.
  • Managing accounting functions and cashier operations where applicable.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • 2 years healthcare or hospitality food service experience (Required)
  • Allergen Awareness Certification - VA State (Required within 180 days)
  • Food Protection Manager Certification - VA State (Required within 180 days)
  • Certified Dietary Manager (Preferred)
