Job summary

Stockton Unified School District is seeking a Food Service Assistant I to join our district operations. You will assist in the preparation and serving of hot and cold foods for students and staff across school sites, while maintaining clean, sanitary kitchens and proper food handling practices.

As an entry-level position, you will learn to operate kitchen equipment, manage portions, and support meal services, cashiering duties, and daily records.

Qualifications

• Basic quantity food preparation, including washing, cutting and assembling items.
• Sanitation and safety practices for food handling and serving.
• Standard kitchen equipment and utensils.
• Interpersonal skills with tact, patience and courtesy.
• Proper lifting techniques.
• Basic math and cashiering skills.
• Oral and written communication skills.
• Basic record-keeping techniques.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve food at an assigned site; heat, package and wrap items.
• Cook and bake a variety of items including main dishes, breads and desserts.
• Forecast quantities and adjust recipes; maintain quality and nutrition.
• Assist snack bar operations; monitor supplies and prepare items.
• Maintain cleanliness of facilities, equipment and utensils.
• Prepare foods for sale; stock condiments and paper goods.
• Prepare salads, sandwiches and packaged foods.
• Assist with meals for special diets and distribution.
• Record production, transport, meal counts and sales.
