Job description

Valley Catholic School is searching for a full-time Food Service Manager for the 2025-2026 school-year. We are looking for candidates who are dynamic and innovative and will complement the experienced and committed staff at our school. A Food Service Manager oversees the daily operations of Valley Catholic Food Service Program, ensuring the delivery of nutritious meals while adhering to relevant regulations and standards. They manage staff, plan menus, procure food supplies, maintain records, and ensure adherence to food safety guidelines. This position reports to the Principal at VCMS and VCHS.

Salary Range begins at $60,000 DOE

The compensation package includes full benefits: medical insurance (vision included); choice of PPO or HMO dental insurance; 100% employer-paid life and disability insurance; an employee assistance program offering free counseling, legal help, financial planning, and more; and generous, 100%-vested employer contributions to the campus retirement plan regardless of employee contributions.

Applicants should have:

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent educational experience.
  • Required: Associate’s Degree or equivalent in school nutrition programs.
  • Certification from an accredited culinary school preferred.
  • Valid Food Handler’s Card.
  • Previous experience as a Food Service Manager in a school setting.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Successful background screening.
  • Ability to complete CASE training within 30 days of employment.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

  • Develop and implement USDA-compliant menus considering student preferences, dietary needs, and costs.
  • Order and manage food supplies and equipment efficiently.
  • Supervise and participate in meal preparation and service.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate food service staff, ensuring proper food handling and safety.
  • Enforce food safety standards, including HACCP and sanitation.
  • Manage the food service budget and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Maintain records of meal production, inventory, and relevant data.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, students, and families.
  • Arrange for maintenance of cafeteria equipment.
  • Address complaints related to food quality or service.
  • Train staff on food prep and sanitation.
  • Assist in marketing the food service program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Serve-Safe Certification or ability to obtain it.
  • Proficiency in English reading, writing, and comprehension.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Problem-solving and proactive issue resolution.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Internet Explorer.
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • Initiative, flexibility, and a desire to learn.
  • Positive, patient attitude toward children.

Work Environment:

The employee will frequently walk and stand, occasionally bend, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds. Visual abilities include close, peripheral, and depth perception. Employment is contingent on passing a criminal background check.
