Job summary

Examination Date

Week of June 30, 2025 Civil Service Board Office 371 West Second Street, Lower Level Dayton, Ohio 45402 *Certified candidates will be sent an email containing specific exam details at a later date.

Responsibilities

Supervises the preparation, cooking and serving of all food and supplies to students, staff and visitors in an attractive, appetizing manner according to department standards and federal guidelines. Completes, reviews and submits: register reports and cash deposit/cash-related reports, HAACP information and temperature and refrigeration logs. Trains and cross-trains staff in kitchen, storeroom and service procedures. Estimates ingredients and supplies required to prepare recipes; performs monthly inventory check; verifies and submits time and attendance records for staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.) AND must have 3 years of applicable commercial food service experience.

Special Requirements

Must have or obtain a Level II Sanitation Certification, CPR certification, and ServeSafe Certification within 6 months of appointment. Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to perform simple mathematical calculations; lift a minimum of 40 pounds; sustain walking and standing on hard, slippery or uneven surfaces; push, pull, reach, stoop and/or bend; exhibit manual dexterity and move quickly and efficiently. May be exposed to conditions typical in a food service environment.

Citizenship

Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the United States at time of application.

Military Credit

Open Competitive applicants who have had military service will receive an additional credit of 20% if a passing grade is attained. To obtain credit, a NON-RETURNABLE copy of the DD214 OR Certificate of Service (INDICATING Honorable Discharge) must be UPLOADED to your application or PRESENTED at time of examination.

Promotional Qualifications

Current employment with Dayton Public Schools must be indicated on your application in order to receive promotional credit. Current employment will be verified by Dayton Public Schools Human Resources Department. Identical scores will be broken by (1) seniority and (2) random selection method.

Open Competitive Applicants

Applicants appearing on the Promotional eligible list shall be considered for appointment prior to those on the Open Competitive list. Identical exam scores will be broken in favor of: (1) the candidate who received military credit and (2) random selection method.

Examination dates and times are subject to change. Calculators will be provided for the Civil Service examination. Final appointment may be contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination, drug screen and/or police background investigation and providing documentary evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity.
