Job summary

The Spencerport School District is accepting applications for a Food Service Helper to assist in the kitchen of Cosgrove Middle School. The position is 10 months, part-time, with hours from 10:30am to 1:45pm.

Responsibilities include food preparation, dish/portioning, serving, and kitchen cleanup, plus cash handling and adherence to sanitation standards. Start date ASAP; salary starts at $16.58 per hour based on experience.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in cash handling and cashier duties.
• Good communication, manual dexterity, and ability to work under time constraints.
• Safely operate and maintain kitchen utensils and equipment.
• Follow written recipes and menus.
• Adhere to sanitation requirements in food handling.
• Establish effective relationships with students and staff.
• Physical stamina: standing for extended periods, lifting up to 30 lbs, bending and reaching.

The Spencerport School District is currently accepting applications for a Food Service Helper to assist in the kitchen ofCosgrove Middle School. Applications will be reviewedand selected candidateswill be contacted for a screening interview.

*Applicants must be fingerprinted and cleared for employment for the NYS Education Department before employment begins.

Job Description/Nature of Work

• General kitchen work includes but not limited to preparation of foods, dishing/portioning of foods, set up of serving lines, cashing, serving, and cleanup of serving lines, and kitchen areas including washing pots and pans.

Participates in the maintenance of acceptable health, safety and sanitary practices as required by various regulatory agencies. Participates in the care and safe operation of the kitchen equipment.

Job Requirements

• Demonstrates proficiency in cash handling, including accurate operation of the cash registers and execution of cashier duties
• Sufficient communication skills, manual dexterity and ability to perform food service skills under time constraints without close supervision
• Safely operate, clean, and maintain utensils and equipment used in a school kitchen.
• Follow written recipes and menus as provided.
• Adhere to sanitation requirements in the handling and preparation of food.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students andstaff.
• Physical stamina required to meet job demands include:
  • Standing for extended periods on hard surfaces
  • Lifting items up to 30 lbs.
  • Bending and reaching
