Job Description
The Food Service Director plans, organizes, develops, and directs the overall operation of the Culinary and Nutritional Department in accordance with company standards and regulations to ensure quality nutritional services and a clean, safe, and sanitary environment.
Essential Activities and Tasks
Operations Management
- Plans, develops, and directs the Culinary and Nutritional Services Department and its activities.
- Supervises and assists in the preparation of all products and meals following planned menus and recipes.
- Maintains adequate stock levels of food, supplies, and equipment through effective purchasing and inventory management.
- Ensures residents' nutritional needs are met.
- Coordinates with other departments such as Nursing, Maintenance, and Housekeeping.
- Plans and executes catering and special events.
Customer Relations and Service Management
- Responds to the needs and feedback of residents and staff.
- Handles complaints and grievances appropriately.
- Participates in community meetings and committees, providing reports on services and activities.
- Maintains confidentiality of resident information.
Quality, Compliance, and Risk Management
- Develops and implements nutritional care plans and monitors food intake.
- Maintains a quality assurance program for the department.
- Ensures cleanliness and safety of culinary work areas and equipment.
- Prepares correction plans for deficiencies identified during inspections.
- Develops emergency disaster plans.
Financial/Assets Management, Administration, and Reporting
- Adheres to the departmental budget.
- Maintains necessary equipment and supplies.
- Follows menu policies and utilizes menu planning software.
- Maintains accurate records per standards and regulations.
Human Resource Management and Development
- Manages Culinary and Nutritional Services staff, including hiring and training.
- Experience with labor unions and contract compliance preferred.
- Sets performance expectations and evaluates staff performance.
- Participates in staff training and scheduling.
All other duties as assigned.
