Job description

We are a dynamic firm rapidly becoming an industry leader in food services management, corporate catering, and restaurant retail. We are looking for motivated and dedicated individuals to join our team, specifically for the position of Food Service Director at our client site, Johnson C. Smith, Charlotte, NC.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Food Service Director is responsible for planning and managing food service operations across the campus. In collaboration with direct reports, (s)he will develop strategic operational plans aligned with the client's mission, vision, and goals, including sustainable practices while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

  • Develop and uphold a safety culture ensuring a work environment where no one gets hurt.
  • Establish and maintain food production systems and procedures for ordering, receiving, storing, preparing, and serving food products.
  • Oversee menu planning and development.
  • Ensure sanitation and food safety standards are met in all areas.
  • Develop operational forecasts, monitor expenses, and report variances.
  • Manage budgeting and accounting functions for the food service components.
  • Conduct periodic inventory checks.
  • Supervise personnel regarding production, merchandising, quality, cost control, and labor management.
  • Recruit, hire, develop, and retain front-line team members.
  • Advocate for students, clients, employees, and the community.
  • Enhance customer service and employee engagement through surveys and feedback.
  • Maintain records to comply with PMS, government, and accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with client management and foster effective client and customer relationships.
  • Develop and implement an annual marketing plan for the account.
  • Identify opportunities for new products and services to support sales growth and client retention.
  • Recognize vertical sales growth opportunities and communicate with relevant experts.

Required Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have at least 5 years of multi-unit experience in dining, retail, or catering operations.

  • Experience in college/university or business dining is highly preferred.
  • At least 2 years of primary financial accountability with direct reporting to clients and senior management is required.
  • Proven success in developing tools to increase revenue and profitability, along with strong communication skills.
