Job description

POSITION: FOOD SERVICE COOK

LOCATION: McCarthy Middle School

WORK YEAR: 2025-2026 School Year (7 hours per day)

SALARY RANGE: Depending on experience and/or SNA Certification, starting at a minimum of $18.30 per hour

Qualifications: Prior experience in quantity cookery and/or child nutrition programs required. Must be physically capable of performing duties including walking, bending, standing for long periods, and lifting objects weighing at least 50 pounds. Knowledge of local, state, and federal statutes related to school meal requirements; operation and care of kitchen equipment; health and food safety regulations; computer literacy desirable. Good verbal and written communication skills preferred.

Summary of Responsibilities: Ensure implementation of safety and health practices, report discrepancies to the site coordinator, operate and clean kitchen equipment, supervise food service assistants, oversee work stations and service, manage clean-up, assist with record-keeping and work schedules, operate in the absence of the site coordinator, train new assistants, advise on staffing needs, ensure compliance with USDA standards, monitor inventories, assist with menu development, support catering for special functions, and perform other related duties.
