About This Position

Hours: Monday - Friday, 9 am - 2 pm

The Food Service Attendant receives prepared foods from the central kitchen and assists with or cleans up according to company policies. The role involves limited paperwork but requires effective communication with management.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
  1. Put on hair restraint, wash hands, and ensure clean clothes and apron.
  2. Familiarize yourself with emergency procedures: exits, fire extinguishers, meeting places, phones, and emergency contacts.
  3. Prepare bleach solution and sanitize work areas including kitchen counters and dining tables.
  4. Check and record refrigerator and freezer temperatures daily.
  5. Review menu, portion control guides, and sign-in sheets for the day.
  6. Locate utensils for meal service.
  7. Set out donation boxes, envelopes, and ensure participant registration and reservation sheets are accessible.
  8. Prepare coffee based on reservations, ensuring extra is available for walk-ins and seniors requesting more.
  9. Arrange tables according to reservations, changing setups seasonally if possible.
  10. Decorate the dining area for monthly holiday meals when appropriate.
  11. Verify received food items against orders; report shortages immediately.
  12. Check food temperatures before service and record; keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold.
  13. Set out perishable items shortly before serving.
  14. Provide hot soapy water for dish soaking if applicable.
  15. Ensure proper hygiene among staff and volunteers during food handling.
  16. Serve meals at scheduled times, prioritizing handicapped or special needs seniors.
  17. Record leftovers, offer seconds, and engage with seniors for feedback.
  18. Count contributions with a volunteer, sign reports, and secure funds in a locked bag.
  19. Dispose of leftover foods properly.
  20. Wash and sanitize all used items, air dry, and store supplies securely.
  21. Monitor supplies, order as needed without overstocking.
  22. Report meal counts to the central kitchen by 1:00 p.m.
  23. Perform final cleanup and organization of the kitchen and dining area.
  24. Perform other duties as needed.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to lift 10-15 lbs and knowledge of proper lifting techniques.
  • Ability to understand instructions and work with the elderly population.
  • Dependability, physical fitness, and ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to cooperate with others and supervise volunteers if needed.
  • Ability to keep simple records and maintain confidentiality.
