Job Summary/Overall Objectives

Performs a variety of duties in operational support of the Food and Nutrition Department, including cleaning, ware washing, serving, food preparation, food transport, and stocking supplies.

Essential Job Functions

• Patient and Retail Services
• Works various stations in patient meal service area.
• Delivers carts, meals, and supplies to patient units.
• Performs dishwashing and pot washing.
• Serves food in retail areas.
• Stocks supplies throughout the department.
• Fills in for cross-trained roles in the department.
• Regulatory/Sanitation
• Maintains a sanitary work area; completes cleaning duties.
• Prepares, serves, and stores foods according to HACCP guidelines.
• Practices good hygiene including hand washing, hair restraints, and glove use.
• Uses FIFO method when obtaining foods from storage.
• Takes and records food temperatures during meal periods.
• Checks sanitizer levels with test strips and records at each fill.
• Records dish machine temperatures each meal period.
• Uses two patient identifiers when delivering trays.
• Safety
• Uses equipment safely; reports issues immediately.
• Cleans equipment per guidelines.
• Follows MSDS guidelines for chemical handling.
• Uses proper body techniques for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
• Service Excellence
• Provides excellent customer service to all customers and coworkers.
• Answers questions about café food items.
• Handles service recovery or involves supervisor as needed.
• Distributes messages promptly.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

• High School Diploma, GED, or higher.
• 0-1 year experience in food service, sanitation, or related industry.
• Strong organizational, critical thinking, and judgment skills.
• Effective communication skills for diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1-3 years’ experience in Food Service.
• Healthcare setting experience.

Licenses and Certifications

• ServSafe Food Safety Certification preferred.
• Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check.

Position Details

• Scheduled based on operational needs, including shifts, standby, on-call.
• Local travel between locations may be required.
