Job description

Lower Merion School District is hiring a Food Service Associate at Welsh Valley Middle School

This individual works in a school cafeteria to prepare and serve food to students, faculty and staff. This individual will work closely with the cafeteria manager and is expected to be able to fill in for the manager as needed. This individual will be expected to work at other locations as needed. This individual is responsible for ensuring that all food is paid for according to school policies and that the kitchen, stock rooms, serving lines and walkways are clean. This individual will know what counts as a reimbursable school meal. This individual will need to display proficient knowledge of food prep, cooking, serving, cashiering, and start / end of day procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepares food according to specified recipes or per the directions of Cafeteria/Complex Manager.
  • Sets up and breaks down serving lines and areas.
  • Serves proper portions of food to be in compliance with federal guidelines and directions of Cafeteria/Complex Manager.
  • Collects payment for all food served using Point-of-Sale software as assigned.
  • Washes dishes and cleans work area, tables, cabinets, and appliances as assigned.
  • Reconciles daily cash receipts as assigned.
  • Ensures that food is maintained at proper temperature, disposing of food that has expired or reached an unsafe temperature.
  • Properly stores leftover food per guidelines for food storage and district procedures.
  • Interacts and communicates with the students in a pleasant and courteous manner.
  • Arrives to work on time and ready for assignments.
  • Flexibility to be ready to work at any site as needed.
  • Has the knowledge to be able to fill in for Cafeteria Manager as needed.
  • Able to help Cafeteria Manager with training of new employees as needed.
  • Able to help Cafeteria Manager with start and end of day procedures.
  • Maintain 10 CEUs annually consistent with state requirements by attending in-service meetings and trainings.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Friendly, outgoing personality.
  • Must be free from all communicable diseases.
  • Experience with volume cooking preferred.
  • Prior food handling experience preferred.
  • Must be able to regularly lift or move 10 lbs. and sometimes up to 40 lbs.
  • Must have reliable transportation to work in multiple buildings as
    assigned
  • Must be a self-starter and flexible to meet the needs of the nutritional services department

This is a benefits eligible position. The workday is 7.5 hours with a half hour break.
