The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district serving approximately 22,000 students with over 60 languages spoken at home. The district includes Sumner Academy, ranked #6 high school nationally and #1 in Kansas by US News.
The district operates Head Start/preschools, 28 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 high schools/colleges, making it the fifth largest in Kansas. Demographics include approximately 56% Hispanic, 24% African American, 9% White, and 6% Asian. The district employs about 4,000 staff, including over 1,800 teachers.
The food service assistant's primary responsibility is to learn and perform duties in production, preparation, storage, and sanitation, ensuring high-quality, attractive food is served in necessary amounts. The role involves working at least 4 hours daily, may include cashier duties, and can be assigned across different work areas, including elementary and secondary schools.
Effective communication, setting priorities, teamwork, adaptability, and relationship-building skills are essential.
186 days, classified salary schedule, hourly non-exempt, report to Nutrition Services Director or supervisor, performance evaluated per policy.
