Position Overview

The School Nutrition Assistant prepares and serves breakfast, lunch, and other foods to students and staff in a courteous, customer-focused manner. Responsibilities include organizing and setting up equipment and workstations under the guidance of the SNS Manager, adhering to USDA, health, and food service regulations. Proper operation of cafeteria equipment is essential.

• Title: Food Service Assistant
• School/Department: Assigned school
• Salary: Grade 55
• FLSA Status: Non-exempt
• Reports To: School Nutrition Manager
• Supervises: None
• Work Schedule: Monday - Friday
• Hours: 21 hours for full-time, 20 hours for part-time
• Months per Year: Based on school calendar

Minimum Qualifications

• Basic ability to read, speak, understand English, and handle currency transactions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of large-scale food preparation and service methods
• Familiarity with food preparation equipment
• Skill in using kitchen utensils and equipment
• Effective communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to maintain emotional control and confidentiality

Education, Training, and Experience

• Ability to read and follow written menus and schedules

Certification and License Requirements
