Job summary

AmeriCorps VISTA in Raleigh, NC is seeking a dedicated member to support food security and workforce development initiatives. You will establish partnerships, plan and manage a food storage capacity, and coordinate food distributions with local organizations.

The role emphasizes outreach, volunteer management, and educational activities, with training and a living allowance provided. The program runs from September 2026 through September 2027 and includes opportunities to contribute to community

Qualifications

  • Experience in education or mentoring is preferred.
  • Ability to develop partnerships and community outreach.
  • Experience coordinating volunteers and program activities.

Responsibilities

  • Establish new and manage existing partnerships.
  • Help plan, create, organize and manage a food storage capacity.
  • Check food donations to help coordinate food distribution.
  • Develop a volunteer member system.
  • Create a communications strategy for sharing resources and services.
  • Engage in workforce development activities to strengthen the food security of the participants and community.
  • Support adult education activities.
  • Print needed materials and reserve rooms.
  • Help manage student and volunteer enrollment.
  • Develop strategies to enroll prospective students.
  • Propose approaches to address obstacles to enrollment (transportation, childcare, literacy, etc.).

Job description

Increase food insecure community members and partner awareness of food security resources, application guidelines, and myths. Some programs of note are: The Summer Food Service Program, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Women Infant & Children (WIC), Meals on Wheels & congregate feeding sites, area food pantries, etc. - Improve outreach strategies to increase the number of clients seeing information and following through to receive resources. Co-design content categories (schools, markets, pantries, gardens, rescue); compile contacts/resources; publish a searchable directory and shared calendar. Map SFSP coverage; grocery rescue sites; farmers market benefit acceptance; communal garden locations; identify underserved zones and propose partner activations. Standardize cross-program indicators; build quarterly dashboards; facilitate Roundtables with data snapshots.
