Job summary

Jobtailor in Pennsylvania is seeking an experienced Food Scientist to manage research and development projects in dry extruded pet foods and snacks, lead production trials, and support technical sales. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Animal Science, Nutrition, or equivalent, required
• 5 years of experience in pet food, food science, or related field
• Demonstrated knowledge of ingredient functionality and food manufacturing processes
• Strong communication and project management skills
• Creativity and problem solving ability
• Ability to collect and interpret data and make recommendations
• Experience working effectively in a plant environment, preferred
• Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Principles
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel
• Ability to talk, hear, walk, move from place to place, stand, and use hands to finger, handle, or touch

Responsibilities

• Manage research and development projects involving new product and process development, production trials, least-cost formulation, product/process improvement, and technical sales support
• Work with dry extruded and baked pet foods and snacks/treats
• Demonstrate project management skills on assigned research and development projects
• Contribute to new product development
• Formulate dry extruded and baked pet foods and snacks/treats according to defined parameters
• Oversee and conduct plant trials at various production facilities
• Troubleshoot and resolve plant-level production and product quality issues
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary internal teams, external customers, and suppliers
• Provide technical sales support
• Apply food science and pet nutrition principles in project work
• Prepare and issue specifications for new ingredients and finished products
