Job summary

Jobot in Martinsville, VA is seeking a Food Scientist to develop new product formulations and lead plant trials in a fast-growing food manufacturing environment.

You will collaborate with Operations, QA, Procurement, and Supply Chain, manage documentation, support scale-up from bench to production, and ensure food safety and quality systems across facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Culinary Science, or related field required.
• 5+ years of food product development or food science experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of ingredient interactions, formulations, and commercialization processes.
• Experience supporting plant trials and scaling products from bench to production.
• Knowledge of food safety and quality systems; HACCP training preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work in both office/lab and manufacturing environments.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and refine new food product formulations based on customer specifications and manufacturing capabilities.
• Create bench samples and support iterative product development activities.
• Plan, coordinate, and lead plant trials and first production runs.
• Partner directly with customers regarding product expectations, feedback, and commercialization timelines.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, QA, Procurement, and Supply Chain teams.
• Manage specification documentation and formulation updates.
• Support ingredient change controls and raw material approvals.
• Coordinate shipment of samples, finished goods, and raw materials as needed.
• Provide technical expertise related to food science, ingredients, and manufacturing processes.
• Support multiple manufacturing facilities on product development initiatives.
