The Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Food Technologist to join our team in a mid-level role. You will independently and collaboratively develop powders, tablets, capsules, ready-to-drink, and ready-to-eat products from concept to market.

The ideal candidate has a proven track record in bringing new concepts to market, especially in formulating powdered beverages. You should manage multiple projects effectively, demonstrating strong critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Formulate and develop food and supplement products, including powders, RTD beverages, RTE items, capsules, and tablets.
  • Innovate and create prototypes, experimenting with formulations and flavors to meet taste, functionality, and quality standards.
  • Reformulate products to ensure compliance and meet customer expectations, maintaining quality and regulatory standards.
  • Organize sensory panels and conduct product testing to meet Sensory Action Standards.
  • Assess ingredients and vendors, ensuring quality and regulatory compliance; build relationships with suppliers.
  • Input raw material specifications and formulas into development software.
  • Estimate product costs, considering sourcing and manufacturing expenses.
  • Develop nutritional and supplement facts panels, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee pilot and scale-up manufacturing, resolving issues to ensure quality.
  • Maintain safety procedures and protocols throughout development.
  • Conduct analytical testing of raw materials and factory trials.
  • Validate formulations for performance and stability.
  • Mentor junior team members as needed.
  • Potentially oversee 1-2 direct reports, establishing SMART goals and conducting PDP reviews.
  • Travel approximately 25% of the time.
  • Document formulation processes thoroughly, maintaining detailed records.
  • Assist with product costing, pricing, and setup for product launches.
  • Lead cross-departmental discussions, fostering a solution-focused culture.
  • Work with Regulatory to generate compliant packaging and labeling.
  • Review raw material specifications for standards and quality.
  • Provide leadership, encouraging collaboration and innovation.
  • Contribute to troubleshooting and brainstorming sessions.
  • Build strong relationships across departments to facilitate innovation.
  • Understand customer needs and align project strategies accordingly.

The Skills you will bring to the team

  • BSc in Food Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years in food, beverage, or dietary supplement industry; experience with dietary supplements is a plus
  • Expertise in product development, especially powders, with experience in bars/RTE, tabs/caps, or RTDs
  • Experience with blending techniques and processing methods like HTST, UHT, retort, etc.
  • Deep knowledge of flavor systems and troubleshooting skills
  • Understanding of lab and production processes, raw material handling, and stability; SAP experience preferred
  • Organized, passionate, and committed to GMP standards
  • Effective project management and communication skills
  • Creative problem-solving and adaptability in fast-paced environments
  • Customer-focused mindset and leadership capabilities
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Resilience and perseverance to overcome challenges
  • Proven track record of successful product launches

Compensation

The salary range for IL-based candidates is $85K-$90K plus an annual bonus, depending on experience and skills.
