Title: Food Runner

Time Out Market Chicago

We love what we do – and it shows! Time Out Market is the division of Time Out that brings our food and cultural experiences to life for our guests, readers and clients.

Our Market Food Runners provide outstanding guest service and products to ensure that each guest enjoys a memorable experience. A Food Runner also assists staff in delivering beverages and meal items to assigned tables. They are responsible for transporting food from the expediting counter to the appropriate table.

Job Description:

  1. Deliver Food and Beverage orders to customers quickly and accurately.
  2. Maintain sanitary and food-safety standards.
  3. Check in with customers to ensure they are satisfied.
  4. Forward customer satisfaction reports to management and relevant parties.
  5. Handle various unplanned consumer requests.

Skills:

  • Create and maintain a sense of urgency.
  • Communicate effectively and assertively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude at all times.
  • Maintain an open and objective view.
  • Listen empathetically and respectfully.

General Requirements:

  • 21+ years of age.
  • Possess or be able to obtain all required state work cards.
  • Obtain an ANSI-accredited Food Handler certificate within 30 days of hire or a BASSET license.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.

Education Requirements:

High School Diploma preferred.

Working Knowledge:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in high-volume hospitality settings such as bars or restaurants.
  • OS systems.
  • Knowledge of hospitality, restaurant, nightclub, bar, and lounge operations.
  • Knowledge of beer, wine, spirits, and safe alcohol service.
  • Experience with opening and closing duties.
  • Proper lifting techniques.
  • Guest relations, sanitation, and safety standards.
  • Beverage presentation and high-volume operations.

Physical Demands:

Must meet physical requirements to perform essential job functions, with reasonable accommodations if needed. These include:

  • Presenting a professional image.
  • Positive energy and good attitude.
  • Ability to read monitors and print legibly.
  • Observant, quick response skills.
  • Ability to move quickly, sit, stand, and perform physical tasks such as twisting, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, climbing, and carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Use of hands and arms, and visual and auditory acuity.

Work Environment and Schedule:

Work primarily in a restaurant environment with moderate noise levels. Shifts may vary to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
