Job summary

Sharing Excess is seeking warehouse associates for a morning shift (9:00 am–2:00 pm) on weekdays in a temperature-controlled facility. You will sort and pack produce, assist with warehouse operations in the Wholesale Produce Market, and support a tight-knit team as we reduce food waste and insecurity across the region.

The ideal candidate works well in a small team, can stand for long periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and is comfortable in a fast-paced nonprofit warehouse environment.

Qualifications

• Availability 9 am – 2 pm Monday to Friday (varies by market).
• Forklift certification preferred.
• Must have reliable transportation (warehouse in industrial area; public transport may be limited).

Responsibilities

• Inspect produce and sort edible vs. non-edible items.
• Set up and restore the sorting area; maintain workplace cleanliness.
• Weigh food donations with pallet scale.
• Maintain records of donations and distributions.
• Supervise and train on-site volunteer produce sorters.
• Pack produce for distribution; move pallets with power jack.
• Coordinate movement of food to loading dock or external vehicles.
• Maintain safe warehouse environment; build mixed pallets for pickups/deliveries.

Position Overview:

Our warehouse associates work approximately 9 am - 2 pm every weekday, so being comfortable with early mornings is a must!

Main responsibilities for this position include sorting and packing produce and assisting with warehouse operations in the Wholesale Produce Market. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working on a close-knit team and in a temperature-controlled warehouse environment. You will assist with a variety of essential tasks to ensure our operations run smoothly and be an essential part of our nonprofit as we reduce food waste and food insecurity across the region.

Responsibilities:

• Inspecting produce and sorting edible vs. non-edible food (looking for bruising, mold, puncture wounds, etc. and sorting out inedible produce)
• Setting up, breaking down, and general upkeep of food sorting area
• Weighing food donations with a pallet scale
• Helping maintain accurate records of food donations and distributions
• Supervising and training on-site volunteer produce sorters, when applicable
• Packing produce in boxes ready for distribution
• Moving pallets of produce with an electrical power jack
• Helping coordinate and move food from the sorting area to the loading dock or external vehicles
• Maintaining a safe and clean warehouse environment
• Building mixed pallets of produce for partner pickups/deliveries

Qualifications:

• Available 9 am - 2 pm M-F (Varies by market,)
• Forklift certification preferred
• Must have a personal vehicle or reliable transportation (Our warehouse is in an industrial area & may not easily be accessible via public transportation)

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 7 hours)
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at one time
• Capability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions
• Comfortable working in a temperature-controlled environment (cooler temperatures)
• Ability to maneuver through a busy warehouse and handle food safely

Compensation:

Starting Salary: $21 per hour
