Job summary

Mennel Milling Company in Roanoke, VA is seeking a Quality Assurance Manager to lead the facility's Food Safety, Quality, and Regulatory programs. You will head the QA laboratory team and ensure products meet customer specs, regulatory requirements, and Mennel's high standards for quality and safety.

You will collaborate with Operations, Sales, and Innovation to drive continuous improvement, training, and CAPA processes, while fostering a strong quality culture across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Cereal Science, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Analytical Sciences, or a related field required
• Master's degree preferred
• Strong knowledge of food safety systems, quality assurance programs, and regulatory compliance requirements
• Experience leading quality and food safety programs in a food manufacturing environment
• Familiarity with flour, grain-based ingredients, milling by-products, dough systems, and related testing methods preferred
• Knowledge of cereal chemistry, analytical chemistry, food science, and SPC

Responsibilities

• Lead the facility's Food Safety, Quality Assurance, and Regulatory programs
• Ensure compliance with GMPs, HARPC, FSMA, GFSI, OSHA, sanitation requirements
• Maintain an audit-ready facility and support audits
• Communicate quality, food safety, and security concerns to leadership
• Manage QA laboratory operations, testing programs, equipment validation, and data integrity
• Maintain laboratory equipment and calibration aligned with business needs
• Lead training and performance management within Quality
• Lead Food Safety/HARPC, Recall, and Sanitation teams
• Develop training programs to improve engagement and performance
• Create product specification cards and support product development
• Develop blending formulas to meet customer specs
• Lead root cause investigations and CAPAs
• Perform SPC analysis and monitor quality trends
• Support customer communications on quality observations and actions
• Maintain confidentiality of customer data
• Provide leadership during absence of key personnel
• Execute quality and food safety strategies with VP
• Collaborate with Operations, Sales, Innovation
• Perform other duties as assigned
