Job summary

Gehl Foods in Germantown, WI is hiring a Packaging Operator for the 3rd shift (Mon-Fri, 10 PM–6 AM). The role focuses on ensuring packaging line quality and GMP compliance, with forklift operation and changeovers for new items.

Compensation includes base pay plus shift differential, with bonus opportunities and full benefits. Ideal candidates will have at least 6 months of manufacturing or packaging experience, strong detail orientation, basic math skills, and solid English communication.

Qualifications

• 6 months of manufacturing, packaging, or assembly line experience
• Demonstrated organizational and observational skills, and detail-oriented
• Basic mathematical calculation skills
• English reading, writing and listening abilities
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision

Responsibilities

• Operates secondary packaging equipment to ensure food safety and quality
• Performs clean, inspect and lube functions
• Assists in startup, troubleshooting, stop/reset and shutdown of line equipment
• Performs changeovers and sets up next item packaging and coding
• Labels secondary packages and pallets
• Reports out-of-spec results to Quality and Supervisory teams
• Communicates safety and compliance issues to leadership
• Maintains logbooks and MES data, and inventory records
• Monitors inventory and production levels for efficiency
• Maintains clean, safe work area and participates in shift meetings
• Operates forklifts to move materials and finished goods
• Other duties as assigned

What You’ll Do

Ensures compliance with Gehl Foods safety standards and applicable regulatory requirements while following the company's Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)

• Operates and observes secondary packaging equipment to ensure food safety, product quality and conformity meeting customer standards and specifications
• Performs clean, inspect and lube functions
• Actively participates in startup, troubleshooting/adjustment, stop/reset and shutdown of line equipment - Clears jams and reports malfunctions to Business Lead/Supervisor as necessary
• Performs changeovers - Completes line clears and accurately sets up next item's packaging and coding
• Applies appropriate labels to secondary packages and completed finished goods pallets
• Reports out of standard/specification results to the Quality Department and Business Unit Lead/Supervisor
• Reports unsafe conditions or other compliance issues to the Business Unit Lead/Supervisor
• Completes handwritten instructions and on-line documentation including Quality and Critical Control Point (CCP) checks accurately and at the required frequencies
• Maintains accurate and detailed work log (including Factory MES data collection) and inventory records
• Monitors and reviews inventory and production levels to achieve the most efficient operating conditions
• Maintains assigned work area and production environment in clean orderly condition - completes environmental cleaning requirements as necessary
• Actively participates in shift exchanges and work team meetings
• Safely operates forklifts to handle materials and finished goods
• Other duties as assigned
