Job summary

Gehl Foods in Germantown, WI is hiring a Packaging Operator for the 2nd shift (Mon-Fri, 2:00PM–10:00PM). Base pay plus a shift differential brings compensation to $21.50 per hour, with comprehensive benefits and opportunities for growth.

You will operate secondary packaging equipment, perform line changes, ensure GMP compliance, maintain logs, and support inventory and quality checks in a fast-paced production environment.

Qualifications

• 6 months of manufacturing/packaging/assembly experience.
• Strong organizational, observational, and detail-oriented skills.
• Basic math skills and ability to read/write/listen in English.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

• Operates secondary packaging equipment to ensure food safety and quality.
• Performs clean, inspect and lube functions.
• Participates in start-up, troubleshooting, and shutdown of line equipment; clears jams and reports malfunctions.
• Performs changeovers and sets up next item's packaging and coding.
• Applies labels to secondary packages and pallets.
• Reports out of standard results to Quality Department and Business Unit Lead.
• Reports unsafe conditions or compliance issues.
• Completes handwritten instructions and CCP checks accurately.
• Maintains accurate logs and MES data.
• Monitors inventory and production levels to optimize operations.
• Keeps work area clean and orderly; follows cleaning requirements.
• Participates in shift exchanges and team meetings.
• Safely operates forklifts to handle materials and finished goods.
• Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Do

Ensures compliance with Gehl Foods safety standards and applicable regulatory requirements while following the company's Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)

• Operates and observes secondary packaging equipment to ensure food safety, product quality and conformity meeting customer standards and specifications
• Performs clean, inspect and lube functions
• Actively participates in start-up, troubleshooting/adjustment, stop/reset and shutdown of line equipment - Clears jams and reports malfunctions to Business Lead/Supervisor as necessary
• Performs changeovers - Completes line clears and accurately sets up next item's packaging and coding
• Applies appropriate labels to secondary packages and completed finished goods pallets
• Reports out of standard/specification results to the Quality Department and Business Unit Lead/Supervisor
• Reports unsafe conditions or other compliance issues to the Business Unit Lead/Supervisor
• Completes handwritten instructions and on-line documentation including Quality and Critical Control Point (CCP) checks accurately and at the required frequencies
• Maintains accurate and detailed work log (including Factory MES data collection) and inventory records
• Monitors and reviews inventory and production levels to achieve the most efficient operating conditions
• Maintains assigned work area and production environment in clean orderly condition - completes environmental cleaning requirements as necessary
• Actively participates in shift exchanges and work team meetings
• Safely operates forklifts to handle materials and finished goods
• Other duties as assigned.
