Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Dietician

OVERVIEW:

Provides nutrition leadership for the District's Child Nutrition Programs, with responsibility for menu compliance, special diets, staff training on allergens and compliance, student nutrition education, and auditing. Serves as subject-matter expert on USDA school meal programs’ nutrition requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Create and manage special diet menus for students with allergies or medical conditions; maintain documentation of all special-diet accommodations.
  • Ensure all menus meet USDA/NSLP/SBP/CACFP/SFSP compliance standards.
  • Support food service operations across all schools.
  • Train staff on food allergy procedures, K-12 program compliance, and safe-handling of allergens.
  • Lead nutrition education initiatives and participate in community and District events as needed.
  • Conduct internal audits and ensure ongoing USDA school meal program compliance, including Offer vs. Serve and meal-pattern verification.
  • Work with the FNS Director in planning, forecasting, research, reporting and grants applications that support District nutrition goals.
  • Work closely with the Procurement and Logistics Manager to menu building, commodities, usage among others.
  • Work with the Executive Chef and on menu development to balance food-cost targets with the best possible student meal experience.
  • Audit and file production records weekly; communicate building-level issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager and FNS Director.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Registered Dietitian (RD or RDN) required. Bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics, or related field required; master's degree preferred. Minimum two (2) years of experience in school food service, public health, or clinical nutrition. Working knowledge of USDA Child Nutrition Programs, the USDA meal patterns, and special dietary accommodation requirements under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

  • The employee is required to have dexterity of hands and fingers.
  • The employee is required to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • They may be occasionally required to bend at the waist, kneel or crouch.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is seated or walking at will, and must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 40 pounds.
