Job Summary:
Under supervision of the Team Operational Coordinator (TOC), the Follow Up & Collections III performs collection tasks with expertise, managing patient accounts from resubmission to final resolution. Responsibilities include addressing denials via appeals and ensuring account balances align with payer contracts. Maintain knowledge of payer rules and perform follow-up to secure owed reimbursements promptly.
Responsibilities Include:
- Act as a patient advocate to gather information and support claims processing or discuss outstanding balances.
- Analyze billing and payer trends, report findings, and suggest solutions.
- Assist with payer issues or collection shortfalls through special projects.
- Contact insurance companies assertively to obtain timely payments, escalating issues when necessary.
- Categorize payer payment issues for resolution and management reporting.
- Maintain customer focus and professional communication internally and externally.
- Understand payer fee schedules, enrollment, and contracts.
- Handle insurance collections, including negotiations, overpayment reviews, and correspondence.
- Draft correspondence for appeals and refer accounts for escalation.
- Support patient collections through calls, financial reviews, payment plans, and dispute resolution.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with responders, facilities, insurers, and patients.
- Organize and prioritize work to meet production goals using relevant tools and systems.
- Participate in ongoing training, expand duties, and support team development.
- Conduct account reviews, skip tracing, secondary claims, and contractual adjustments.
- Confirm insurance coverage, obtain prior authorizations, and verify benefits.
- Possess knowledge of HCPCS, CPT, ICD codes, and medical terminology.
- Provide leadership, training, and support to billing staff.
- Research payer policies, guidelines, and regulations, communicating updates to the team.
- Monitor and prioritize claims and correspondence to meet standards.
- Review and interpret explanations of benefits for compliance and accuracy.
- Follow directions, coordinate projects, and prioritize tasks individually and as a team.
- Ensure claim accuracy, train staff on payer requirements, and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Support company safety policies and activities, including Destination Zero.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

The Successful Candidate Will Have:
- High school diploma or GED; experience in medical billing/collections with increasing responsibilities.
- Knowledge of office procedures, PC skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and billing software.
- Experience with email and web tools.
- Some college preferred.
- Ability to pass drug test and background check.
- Safety Sensitive position under Arizona Medical Marijuana Act.
