Job description

Position Overview

The Folder/Gluer Operator sets up, operates, and maintains folder/gluer equipment that folds, glues, and forms die-cut paper into finished products. Those products include folding cartons, boxes, sleeves, pocket folders, and other packaging. The role works from electronic job tickets and samples to meet quality specs, glue and fold standards, and production deadlines. It also coordinates closely with die cutting, quality, and shipping. This role requires an operator who takes ownership of their equipment, catches problems early, and keeps the shop floor safe.

Work Hours: AM and PM shifts available

Key Responsibilities
Machine Setup & Operation
  • Review job tickets, samples, structural specifications, and work orders to understand job requirements and determine the proper machine setup and production process.
  • Set up and operate folder/gluer equipment, including the Bobst Expert Fold, by adjusting the feeder, pre-breakers, folding belts, rails, and compression section to meet job specifications.
  • Set up and adjust glue systems, including wheel, extrusion, and hot- or cold-melt systems. Monitor glue patterns, volume, and placement, and manage glue supplies and changeovers.
  • Run test pieces and inspect the first finished samples for squareness, fold accuracy, glue bond, gaps, and fish-tailing. Make adjustments as needed to meet specifications. Monitor machine operation throughout production and make adjustments to maintain product quality, production speed, and consistent results.
Quality Control & Troubleshooting
  • Perform quality checks during and after production, including glue bond testing, squareness, and count accuracy. Record inspection results on job tickets.
  • Operate and monitor inline quality control systems, such as glue detection, code readers, cameras, and tape applicators, when available.
  • Identify and troubleshoot production issues, including jams, skewing, poor glue adhesion, and misfeeds. Make minor repairs as appropriate and report larger mechanical issues to the supervisor or maintenance team.
Maintenance, Safety & Team Support
  • Complete routine cleaning, lubrication, and preventive maintenance, including cleaning glue systems and keeping equipment in good working condition.
  • Check equipment and tools for proper operation and potential safety hazards.
  • Pack finished products according to customer requirements, including counts, cases, labeling, and palletizing. Provide direction to delivery-end packers as needed.
  • Load and unload materials, including pallets and skids, using pallet jacks and other approved material-handling equipment.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and required personal protective equipment (PPE). Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Keep the supervisor informed of production progress, equipment issues, and delays. Record production information, including run counts, make-ready time, downtime, and waste.
  • Train or assist other operators, feeders, and packers as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
