Job summary

Goldschmitt and Associates is seeking a FOIA Analyst I to provide FOIA support for policy and program offices within a government agency. The role is Hybrid and requires commuting to the USDT office in Washington, DC twice weekly.

This is anticipated to be a temporary position with a salary up to $70,000. Responsibilities include independently handling complex FOIA requests, applying exemptions, communicating with stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with FOIA laws and agency policies.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of FOIA experience providing cradle-to-grave support to or for a government agency.
  • Understanding of FOIA exemptions 1-7.
  • Experience using FOIAXpress to manage/process FOIA requests.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage and process complex FOIA requests, conduct thorough record searches, evaluate exemptions, and determine redactions.
  • Apply legal FOIA exemptions to decisions on disclosure and redaction.
  • Communicate with requesters, agency staff, legal counsel, and stakeholders to address inquiries and negotiate scope.
  • Support requests for records as required under FOIA procedures.
  • Review, organize, and analyze documents for production, identifying confidential information and sensitive content.
  • Disclose non-exempt information and support proactive disclosures in the government reading room.

Summary:

Goldschmitt and Associates is searching for a FOIA Analyst I to provide FOIA support for policy and program offices within a government agency.

This position is Hybrid role and requires commuting to the USDT office in Washington, DC twice per week.

This position is anticipated to be a temporary position.

The anticipated annual salary for this position is up to $70,000, dependent upon experience.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Independently manage and process complex FOIA requests, conductthorough record searches across various agency systems, evaluating exemptions, and determineappropriate redactions to ensure compliance with FOIA laws and agency policies
  • Apply legal expertise to interpret FOIA exemptions, including those related to national security, personal privacy, and commercial information, and makeinformed decisions on disclosure and redaction
  • Effectively communicate with requesters, agency staff, legal counsel, and other stakeholders to address FOIA inquiries, negotiate the scope of the request, and resolve complex issues
  • Support required will involve various assistance-related duties to respond to requests for records, pursuant to the FOIA
  • Review, organize, and analyze documents for production in response to FOIA requests, including determining responsive records, identifying confidential business information, intra-agency, pre-decisional and deliberative information or attorney work product, and personal identifying information
  • Promote transparency within the government agency by disclosing non-exempt information directly to requestors and making proactive disclosures of non-exempt information readily accessible via the government online electronic reading room
  • Appropriately apply Exemptions 1-7 when responding to FOIA requests
  • Utilize FOIAXpress to manage and process FOIA requests
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with individuals at all organizational levels
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks within specified deadlines
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Possess at least1 year of experience working in the FOIA field providing cradle to grave support to, or working directly for, a Government Agency
  • Possess a working understanding of Exemptions 1-7
  • Possess prior experience utilizing FOIAXpress to manage and process FOIA requests
  • Possess the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree
