Job summary

Fisher Industries is seeking a Foam Controls Technician to program PLCs, HMIs, and motion systems for our industrial foam production equipment. The role emphasizes safe operation of spray foam systems, proper surface prep, and quality workmanship.

You will work with ST, LD, and FBD programming, configure interlocks and safety features, tune PID loops, and support multi-axis automation. A high school diploma or GED is required, with automation training preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; technical automation training preferred.
  • Experience with PLC programming using ST, LD, and FBD.
  • Experience with Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000, Beckhoff TwinCAT or similar.
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems, machine automation, and safety systems.
  • Experience with PID loop tuning, process control, and precision dosing applications preferred.
  • Knowledge of flow meters, pressure transmitters, temperature controls, and industrial instrumentation.
  • Experience with servo drives, motion control, and multi-axis automation preferred.
  • Experience developing and troubleshooting HMI and SCADA systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.

  • Maintain automation documentation, backups, and system configuration records.

POSITION SCOPE

The Foam Controls Technician is responsible for programming PLC systems, human-machine interfaces (HMIs), and motion control systems for industrial foam production equipment. This position requires safe operation of spray foam equipment, proper surface preparation, quality workmanship, and adherence to company safety standards.

PRIMARY DUTIES
  • Program and troubleshoot PLC systems using Structured Text (ST), Ladder Logic (LD), and Function Block Diagrams (FBD).
  • Develop and maintain control logic for system interlocks, safety curtains, machine guarding, and automated production sequences.
  • Configure and optimize precision dosing and ratio control systems for chemical processing applications.
  • Program, tune, and troubleshoot PID control loops to maintain accurate chemical flow rates and product quality.
  • Develop and support motion control and servo systems for automated cutting, dispensing, and material handling equipment.
  • Program and maintain multi-axis synchronized movement systems and automated gantries.
  • Design, modify, and troubleshoot HMI and SCADA interfaces for process monitoring and control.
  • Monitor production systems, respond to alarms, and identify opportunities for process improvements.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and controls-related issues to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain automation documentation, program backups, and system configuration records.
REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or automation-related training preferred.
  • Experience with PLC programming using Structured Text (ST), Ladder Logic (LD), and Function Block Diagrams (FBD).
  • Experience with Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000, Beckhoff TwinCAT, or similar PLC programming software.
  • Knowledge of industrial control systems, machine automation, and safety systems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear a respirator and other required PPE for extended periods.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and travel when required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Commercial, industrial, and construction job sites.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, temperature extremes, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Frequent use of PPE including respirators, protective suits, gloves, eye protection, and fall protection equipment when required.
