Job description

Overview

The Food Production Specialist Lead position is responsible for ensuring the proper operations of the kitchen and staff.

FPS Lead functions under the authority and direct supervision of the Director of Food and Nutrition and must work closely with the Dieticians to ensure the products served to patients are prepared according to physician directives. When the Director is not on campus, the FPS Lead is responsible for maintaining the department professionally. This includes supervising and ensuring the safety of all employees within the Food and Nutrition Department, excluding dietitians.

Key responsibilities include:

Food Quality and Safety
  • Ensure accuracy, appearance, proper temperature, and flavor of all served food items.
  • Order and maintain all food and non-food supplies.
  • Explain handling and storage procedures for all perishable food products and the danger zone.
Communication and Data Analysis
  • Demonstrate written and oral communication skills.
  • Analyze and interpret financial and other relevant data.
Planning and Problem Solving
  • Plan, organize, and manage time effectively.
  • Anticipate and resolve problems proactively.
Infection Control and Sanitation
  • Monitor ongoing infection control and foodborne illness prevention programs.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of infection control procedures.
  • Maintain sanitation standards, achieving a score of 90-100 as per State Health Department and EOC standards.
Safety and Compliance
  • Know and communicate all safety procedures in the hospital and department.
  • Provide ongoing safety training based on assessed needs.
  • Conduct regular tray assessments.
  • Ensure procurement compliance.
  • Understand and explain standards impacting food and nutrition services, including JCAHO, COBRA, and state regulations.
Leadership and Staff Management
  • Maintain objectivity and professionalism when dealing with staff.
  • Participate in developing and approving departmental policies.
  • Plan and conduct ongoing competency improvements based on needs assessments.
  • Monitor task analysis to optimize staff performance and workload distribution.
  • Maintain a clear chain of command and resolve negativity promptly.

Qualifications

Education: High School Graduate preferred.

Certifications: ServSafe Certification required.
