Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking a fluids design engineer to join the Lunar Permanence unit. You will design fluid and propulsion related components, analyze performance, and develop interface definitions across vehicle subsystems.

The role requires a mechanical or aerospace engineering degree, 5+ years in CAD (Creo), and experience with gas systems, GD&T, and flow calculations. This is a full-time on-site role with competitive benefits and a culture of safety and inclusion.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in mechanical or aerospace engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years in 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred).
  • 2+ years designing aerospace fluid or mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of gas systems and GD&T proficiency.
  • Experience with flow/pressure calculations and thermal/structural analysis.
  • Understanding of fluid components (valves, tubing, pressurized hardware).
  • Ability to define interfaces between vehicle subsystems.
  • Familiarity with tube stock, fittings, welding, and installation methods.
  • Strong written, verbal, and graphical communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Fluids sub-assembly design and development, CAD parts in Creo.
  • Analyze components for fluid, thermal, and structural use.
  • Interpreting and generating P&IDs with AutoCAD.
  • Create specs for fluid/gas components (valves, manifolds, regulators).
  • Develop interface definitions between fluid systems and subsystems.
  • Conduct component trade studies and data analysis.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and Blue Origin teams for procurement and installation.
  • Verify components against company standards.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Fluids sub-assembly design and development, designing parts and assemblies in CAD (Creo preferred).
  • Analyze custom components for fluid, thermal, and structural applications.
  • Interpreting and generating Piping and instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) using AutoCAD.
  • Create specifications for fluid/gas components i.e., solenoid valves, directional valves, manifolds, regulators, pressure vessels, and instrumentation.
  • Develop and maintain interface definitions between fluid systems and other vehicle subsystems.
  • Perform component trade studies and analyze test data.
  • Work with suppliers or Blue Origin groups to identify components and support procurement, fabrication, and installation.
  • Perform component verification of internally and externally sourced components to company standards.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred).
  • 2+ years of proven experience in the design of aerospace fluid or mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with gas systems.
  • Proficiency in crafting engineering drawings with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
  • Experience performing flow and pressure calculations as well as structural and thermal analysis of fluid systems.
  • Proven understand of fluid components such as valves, tubing, and pressurized hardware.
  • Develop and maintain interface definitions between the vehicle and subsystems.
  • Knowledge of standard installation and fabrication methods of fluid systems (tube stock, fittings, connections, fasteners, welding, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communications skills
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering field
  • Hands‑on experience building and testing mechanical assemblies or pressurized components/systems
Base Pay Range for: WA applicants is $99,201.00 - $138,880.35
