Job summary

Quaker Houghton is seeking a Fluidcare Technician to perform on-site technical support in our customers' manufacturing environments. You will follow standard procedures and work under supervision to maintain fluid systems and record data.

Shift: Third Shift, 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM. Responsibilities include adding chemicals, testing coolant quality, maintaining equipment, preparing shift reports and liaising with customer staff.

Qualifications

  • No prior manufacturing experience required.
  • Ability to read and follow procedures.
  • Basic troubleshooting and measurement skills.
  • Willingness to work in a loud industrial environment.

  • Perform bio-stick dip tests of machine sumps and central systems.

  • Safely operate hand tools and industrial equipment.
  • Assist in disposal of contaminated materials and waste management.

Job description

Job Summary

Perform first level of on-site technical, data recording and assessment within the manufacturing environment of Quaker Houghton customers. Follow standard procedures and work under readily available supervision or management where necessary to provide a high standard of Fluidcare support.

Shift: Third Shift, 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM.

Job Accountabilities
  • Participate in addition of chemicals; including coolants, greases, oils, lubricants, cleaners and biocides as directed by site staff.
  • Perform bio‑stick dip tests of all machine sumps and central systems.
  • Assist in the maintenance of coolant filters, washers, paint systems, pumps, air handling systems, etc. for sump changes and cleaning as required to keep fluids within proper limits.
  • Measure and record coolant parameters and maintain lubrication schedules to ensure parameters are met. This may involve dropping and cleaning tanks when required.
  • Liaise directly with the customer so that changes in coolant parameters are highlighted, acted upon, and entered into appropriate databases.
  • Prepare detailed shift reports.
  • Assist in routine maintenance on customer’s equipment and fluid systems including product additions, filter changes, emptying gons, sump cleaning, etc. as directed.
  • Assist in disposal of contaminated articles (e.g., pails, gloves, samples) in accordance with prescribed measures, including waste management and recycling initiatives.
  • Assist in maintaining and calibrating all laboratory equipment such as scales, pH meters, glassware, incubators, etc. in accordance with site control plans.
  • Assist in properly maintaining tools and utility equipment such as pumps, sump suckers, coolant dispensers, etc. in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Where appropriate: cut‑up, mount and prepare parts for metallurgical testing.
  • Perform surface etching of parts for analysis.
  • Conduct measurement and metallurgical determinations, including hardness and microstructure analysis.
  • Support site staff with general organization initiatives (inventory, storage rooms, labeling, etc.).
  • Interact with customer’s production and technical personnel and other suppliers.
  • Operate hand tools, shop tools and equipment as required.
  • Operate industrial equipment such as fork trucks, sump suckers, power washers, tuggers, etc.
  • Work flexible hours as needed.
  • Carry out other duties as directed.
  • Perform tasks related to quality control, metalogical heat treat, and the steel industry as needed.
  • Provide other specifically agreed Fluidcare services as and when required by the Site Manager and/or Lead Technician (e.g., operating a fork truck, recycling equipment).
  • Safely work in a variety of potentially hazardous situations while adhering to Quaker Houghton’s Life Saving Rules.
Experience, Skills & Competencies
  • Minimal to no prior experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate reading skills.
  • Ability to present information effectively.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Proficiency in data entry (MS Excel and Word) and reporting activities.
  • Forklift truck driver’s license or ability to undertake training where appropriate.
  • Basic working knowledge of internet software, e‑mail, word processing, spreadsheets and project tracking.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds; stand for long periods; walk long distances; use hands to finger, handle, feel, and reach; sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and work in small spaces and at high locations.
  • Flexibility to work in small spaces and high locations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
Work Environment

Work in a manufacturing environment that may expose employees to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, and trip and slip hazards. The noise level is loud. Maintain a safety mindset throughout the area of responsibility and uphold the highest EHS standards at the customer’s site.
