Job Summary

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high‑resolution surveillance systems. We have an exciting opportunity in San Diego within our Mechanical Engineering Department for a Mechanical/Aerospace Engineer that wants to be part of making history by participating in the development of some of the most novel remotely piloted aircraft of our time. We are looking for an experienced engineer on the Fluid Conveyance team within the Propulsion Systems group, which is responsible for the design, development, testing and field support of fluid systems such as fuel, oil, cooling and pneumatic. These systems are developed for multiple engine types and applications on various remotely piloted aircraft. With limited management consultation, this position requires conceptualization and articulation of innovative solutions to highly technical and complex engineering problems. Often functioning in a leadership role, the position may direct the planning and oversight of projects and will represent the Fluid Conveyance team and Mechanical Engineering organization through technical presentations and documents. The position requires engineering knowledge, leadership, and project management, and may require participation in attracting and retaining engineering staff.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate in the design, development, test, and integration of fluid conveyance systems such as fuel, oil, cooling and pneumatic for remotely piloted aircraft.
  • Conceptualize and articulate innovative solutions to highly technical and complex engineering problems, including strategic objectives and timing.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and guidance for research into the solution of engineering problems.
  • Provide manufacturing and field service support by acting as a subject matter expert for the fluid systems and associated components on the aircraft.
  • Interact with senior level internal and external personnel on technical matters requiring coordination between organizations.
  • Prepare and present design reviews and other technical materials for executive management.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Will work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.
Job Qualifications
  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience: four or more years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or two or more years of experience with a master’s degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Direct experience with aircraft propulsion systems and associated fluid conveyance systems.
  • Working knowledge of fluid dynamics, heat transfer, aircraft utility functions, and propulsion systems.
  • Understanding of military standards, specs, and configuration control.
  • Customer focused; development of innovative new designs and solutions that meet customer requirements.
  • Experience with FAR, EASA, or other airworthiness certification.
  • Working knowledge of CAD modeling (Unigraphics NX), and drafting.
  • Familiarity with GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and tolerance stack up methodology.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOD security clearance is required.

We recognize and appreciate the value and contributions of individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences and welcome all qualified individuals to apply.
