The Flowback Operator I is an entry-level position responsible for performing essential field operations under direct supervision. This role is classified as a "Hand" and will learn various aspects of flowback operations, with a focus on safety, equipment handling, and basic operational procedures. The individual will receive on-the-job training and must demonstrate a willingness to learn, follow instructions, and expand their knowledge of flowback equipment and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Training and Safety:
- Participate in all SSE (Safe Start Energy) training programs.
- Understand and follow Proflow policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Adhere to company and customer-specific safety requirements during classroom and field training.
- Learn and comply with Emergency Action Plan (EAP) protocols.
- Take part in hazard identification, stop work authority (SWA), and situational awareness training.
- Field Operations:
- Assist with rig-up and rig-down procedures.
- Learn to identify and spot moving equipment.
- Perform basic flowback tasks under supervision, including gauging tanks, fluid flow paths, and equipment sequencing.
- Learn to operate and manage fluid tank levels and pressure equipment safely.
- Assist in dumping sand separators, weighing sand, and performing hourly water readings.
- Learn to obtain a 5-minute strap for accurate measurement.
- Equipment Handling:
- Gain proficiency in rigging up and rigging down iron (hammer unions) and applying restraints.
- Learn the proper identification of flowback equipment and its applications.
- Gain hands-on experience with valve applications, including needle, plug, and ball valves.
- Operate chokes, manifolds, and test separators under direct supervision.
- Communication and Documentation:
- Learn communication protocols, including SIMOPS (Simultaneous Operations), hand signals, and various rate methods such as "barrel in, barrel out."
- Develop skills for accurate documentation and paperwork required for the operator job title.
- Learn to take notes effectively and participate in proper shift handovers.
- Understand and navigate communication platforms and Paycom.
- Mentorship and Initiative:
- Shadow experienced operators and mentors, asking questions and demonstrating a willingness to learn.
- Show initiative in learning new skills within the assigned job scope.
- Begin mentoring new employees (SSE) as knowledge expands.
Administrative Expectations
- Must be punctual and work the entire assigned shift.
- Participate in tailgate meetings and assist with completing the Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
- Ensure manifolds and plug catchers are regularly inspected and checked before shift changes.
- Safety trainings must be up to date within 25 days of the due date.
- All acknowledgment forms must be updated within 5 days.
- No recordable safety incidents.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong attention to detail and safety-oriented mindset.
- Willingness to work in a physically demanding, outdoor environment.
- Ability to follow instructions and learn new procedures.
- Basic understanding of fluid dynamics and equipment operation (training provided).
- Capable of learning annular velocity calculations and weighing returns under supervision.
- Ability to operate a manlift, telehandler, or forklift (training provided).
Working Conditions
- Field environment, often working long hours and in various weather conditions.
- Requires physical activity, including lifting, bending, and operating heavy equipment.
- On-site training and operations are conducted under direct supervision to ensure safety.
