Salary to be commensurate with experience The hiring rate for this position is $31.08 per hour. This is classified as VHBE (Variable Hour Benefit Eligible), where the selected candidate can work up to 40 hours per week. The selected candidate will be eligible to elect Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits, accrue paid time off, and receive 11 paid holidays.

Aurora Water is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the drinking water, sanitary sewer and storm drainage systems, treatment of drinking water and non-potable reclaimed wastewater for irrigation, billing and collection, public outreach and water conservation, acquisition and development of future water rights, major capital projects programs, and quality control for regulatory compliance and public health. The Water Flow Control Technician performs dispatch duties and assists in the operation and monitoring of Aurora’s Water system. Answers calls from citizens, dispatch Aurora’s on-call personnel, and perform operational duties such as system monitoring, operation, and coordination of on-call response. System monitoring includes water treatment, transmission and distribution, source water, and reuse treatment and pumping.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
High School Diploma or GED
Preferred 6 months experience in any/all of the following; operation and maintenance of water distribution or wastewater collection systems, vocational training in an accredited water training program, and/or experience in a Dispatch / Call Center environment.
Colorado Class1 Water Distribution System Operator Certificate within the 6-month Introductory Period. Colorado Class1 Wastewater Collection System Operator Certificate within the 6-month IntroductoryPeriod. Certificate Colorado Driver's License with a good driving record. Ability to obtain a Class 2 Water Distribution System Operator Certificate and a Class D Wastewater Treatment Operator certification within 2½ years (30 months) of the hire date as a Flow Control Technician I with Aurora Water.
Basic water theory and principles (hydraulics, gradients, etc.), distribution system principles, operations, control processes and maintenance requirements. Skill in the use of personal computers including word processing and spreadsheet software applications. Ability to handle multiple complex situations. Experience related to the operation and maintenance of a water distribution system.

Continuous operation of communication equipment & computer and infrequent operations of motor vehicles. This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment. The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026. The scheduled furlough dates are January16, April10, July2, and December24.
