Job summary
Mohawk Industries is seeking a Process Development & Innovation Engineer to advance advanced manufacturing processes that enhance product performance, quality, and cost competitiveness. You will blend hands-on testing with process validation and work with cross-functional teams to move concepts from idea to production.
The role emphasizes beveling, profiling, milling, and edge treatments, with opportunities to lead trials, implement new tooling strategies, and champion continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field.
- 3–7 years of manufacturing, process engineering, product development, or industrial process experience.
- Experience with machining, milling, profiling, wood-based products, composites, SPC, laminate, LVT, or related manufacturing technologies preferred.
- Experience conducting industrial trials and process development projects preferred.
- Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma certification preferred.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical expert for milling and profiling operations used in flooring manufacturing.
- Develop and optimize machining, beveling, profiling, and finishing processes to improve quality and manufacturability.
- Evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies, tooling concepts, and equipment improvements.
- Identify process capability gaps and develop solutions to increase line performance and reduce variability.
- Lead industrial trials and plant-scale validation of new process concepts.
- Partner with Product Development to convert ideas into commercially viable manufacturing processes.
- Develop innovative features and differentiated manufacturing techniques to improve product value.
- Design and execute laboratory and plant trials to validate new concepts.
- Research emerging flooring technologies and methods for competitive advantage.
- Specify, evaluate, and optimize cutting tools, profiles, machining parameters, and tooling strategies.
- Work with suppliers to improve profile quality, productivity, and tool life.
- Develop standards and best practices for milling operations.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing issues in profiling, edge quality, and dimensional stability.
- Support implementation of new tooling systems and process upgrades.
- Identify and lead cost reduction projects focusing on materials, labor, tooling, scrap, and efficiency.
- Analyze production and quality data to identify optimization opportunities.
- Develop business cases and recommendations for capital investments.
