Job summary

COMLUX AMERICA LLC in Indianapolis, IN, seeks a Flooring Installation Technician to install carpet, flooring, tile and related interior materials on VIP aircraft, ensuring alignment with design specs and safety requirements. Under supervision, you will interpret engineering drawings, prepare surfaces, measure and cut with precision, and document installation records in accordance with RSQM.

Qualifications

Role Description

The Flooring Installation Technician is responsible for the preparation, fitting, and installation of carpet, flooring, tile and related interior materials within VIP aircraft. Working under the direction of an experienced Installer or Lead and part of the overall completions team, this position ensures flooring and carpet installations meet approved design specifications, quality standards, and customer expectations. The role requires the ability to interpret material specifications and engineering documentation, properly use installation tools and equipment, and complete required documentation in accordance with Comlux procedures and regulatory requirements. The technician may also assist with the installation and modification of fabricated aircraft interior components including cabinetry, galleys, closets, divans, lavatories, side ledges, bulkheads, trim, panels and other cabin interior furnishings used in VIP aircraft completion projects.

Essential Job Functions
  • Install carpet, flooring, tile and related aircraft interior materials in accordance with approved design specifications, engineering documentation, and established installation procedures.
  • Measure, cut, fit, seam, and secure flooring materials to achieve accurate fit, alignment, and finish.
  • Prepare aircraft surfaces and components for flooring installation, ensuring proper cleanliness, condition, and preparation prior to installation.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, material specifications, work instructions, and other technical documentation necessary to complete assigned work.
  • Verify installed flooring meets design specifications, quality standards, workmanship requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Identify and communicate material, fit, finish, or installation discrepancies to the appropriate Lead or Supervisor.
  • Request and maintain required materials, tools, and equipment in a timely manner to support continuous workflow.
  • Properly use hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, and specialized flooring installation equipment.
  • Complete required production and quality documentation, including appropriate sign-offs and installation records, in accordance with the Comlux Repair Station Manual (RSQM) and applicable quality requirements.
  • Maintain proper care and protection of the aircraft, interior components, tools, and customer property throughout the installation process.
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures, department processes, Internal Operating Procedures (IOPs), and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the installation process.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve installation methods, quality, efficiency, and material utilization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Education And Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required; relevant trade school or vocational training preferred.
  • One (1) year of carpet, tile, or wood flooring, interior installation, upholstery, cabinetry, or related skilled‑trade experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in corporate aviation, aircraft completions, or a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required company and regulatory training.
Required Skills And Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of flooring installation techniques, including measuring, cutting, fitting, seaming, and securing materials.
  • Ability and willingness to learn aircraft interior installation processes and procedures.
  • Ability to accurately measure and work with precision in a highly detailed environment.
  • Ability to learn and apply Comlux quality standards, installation procedures, IOPs, and RSQM requirements.
  • Working knowledge of computers and related software utilized by Comlux.
  • Ability to properly use hand tools, power tools, and installation equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with Leads, Supervisors, Engineering, Planning, and other production departments.
  • Ability to work effectively in a deadline‑driven, team‑oriented environment.
  • Ability to communicate in an assertive, professional, and tactful manner.
  • Willingness to learn Lean or other continuous improvement techniques.
  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude while working in a fast‑paced environment with changing priorities.
Work Environment

This position is based in an aircraft hangar environment and may involve:

  • Exposure to varying temperatures and weather conditions
  • Loud noise levels
  • Use of heavy machinery and specialized tools
  • Potential contact with chemicals or hazardous materials
  • Working in confined aircraft interior spaces
