Job summary

Comlux America, a premier VIP aircraft completion and refurbishment center in Indianapolis, is seeking an Upholstery Technician III. This senior role requires advanced upholstery fabrication, pattern alignment, and sewing to produce aircraft seats, trim components, and soft goods per engineering drawings.

The candidate will mentor junior technicians, ensure compliance with FAA/RSQM standards, and maintain a safe, efficient shop environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare upholstered surfaces for foam and covering using hand tools per procedures.
  • Perform advanced sewing operations on seat covers and curtains.
  • Fabricate and upholster seats, cushions, trim panels and soft goods as per drawings.
  • Interpret material specs and drawings to meet design requirements and quality standards.
  • Maintain production workflow by identifying material needs and ordering supplies.
  • Ensure proper documentation and installation records per RSQM and QA standards.

Role Description

Under minimal supervision,the Upholstery Technician III performs advanced upholstery fabrication andinstallation for VIP aircraft completion projects. This role is responsible for seeing, foam fabrication, pattern alignment, and upholstery of aircraft seats,trim components, panels, and carpeting while ensuring all work meetsengineering specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. TheTechnician III serves as a senior technical resource within the upholsteryshop, supporting production efficiency, troubleshooting complex upholsterychallenges, and assisting in the development of junior technicians.

Essential Job Functions
  • Prepareupholstered surfaces for foam and covering using various hand tools inaccordance with approved company procedures. Clean adhesive residue from panelsand remove materials from parts as required.
  • Perform advancedsewing operations and modifications to seat covers, curtains, cushions, andother upholstery components using industrial sewing machines and specializedupholstery tools.
  • Fabricate andupholster aircraft interior components including seats, cushions, trim panels,and soft goods in accordance with engineering drawings and designspecifications.
  • Interpret complexmaterial specifications and engineering drawings to ensure upholsteredcomponents meet design requirements, quality standards, and customerexpectations.
  • Identify materialrequirements and request supplies in a timely manner to maintain continuousproduction workflow.
  • Ensure allregulatory documentation and installation records are properly completed inaccordance with the Comlux Repair Station Quality Manual (RSQM) and otherapplicable quality standards.
  • Follow alldepartmental safety guidelines and ensure proper use of tools, equipment, andpersonal protective equipment.
  • Maintain a strongworking knowledge of company installation procedures, process specifications,and Internal Operating Procedures (IOPs).
  • Provide guidanceand technical support to Upholstery Technician Trainees, Technician I, andTechnician II team members as needed.
  • Maintain a clean,organized, and safe work environment while supporting efficient shopoperations.
  • Perform otherduties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications,Education and Experience
  • High SchoolDiploma or GED required. Relevant trade school or vocational trainingpreferred.
  • Advancedknowledge of aircraft upholstery fabrication processes within a corporateaviation or aircraft completions environment.
  • 6+ years ofupholstery, sewing, or aircraft interior fabrication experience preferred.
  • Ability to read,write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to readand interpret blueprints and engineering documentation.
Required Skills andAbilities
  • Advancedknowledge of upholstery fabrication techniques including foam shaping, sewing,pattern alignment, and leather installation.
  • Strongunderstanding of RSQM procedures and FAA regulatory requirements related toaircraft interior fabrication and installation.
  • Working knowledgeof computers and software systems utilized by Comlux.
  • Strongcraftsmanship and attention to detail required for high-end VIP aircraftinteriors.
  • Ability to mentorjunior technicians and support team productivity.
  • Strongcommunication and collaboration skills when working with production teams,supervisors, engineering, and quality personnel.
Work Environment

This position is based inan aircraft hangar environment and may involve:

  • Exposure tovarying temperatures and weather conditions
  • Loud noise levels
  • Use of heavymachinery and specialized tools
  • Potential contactwith chemicals or hazardous materials
  • Working inconfined aircraft interior spaces
