Qualifications

• 2-4 years of environmental services or healthcare facility maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs advanced floor care including stripping, waxing, buffing; operates floor maintenance equipment.
• Handles disposal of hazardous, infectious, and noninfectious waste per OSHA/EPA/hospital policies.
• Executes terminal cleaning in high-risk areas such as operating rooms and ICUs.
• Trains and mentors new Environmental Services staff on cleaning techniques and infection control.
• Assists with special projects, construction cleanup, and emergency response cleaning.
• Moves and positions furniture, medical equipment, and floor mats to support operations.
• Monitors supplies; reports shortages and ensures proper usage to minimize waste.
• Identifies maintenance and safety concerns and reports for prompt action.
• Performs other duties; maintains regular attendance and policy compliance.

Job Summary

The Environmental Services Worker III is responsible for performing advanced cleaning, sanitation, and facility maintenance tasks to ensure a safe, hygienic, and compliant hospital environment. This role requires expertise in floor care, waste management, infection control, and specialized cleaning procedures. The Environmental Services Worker III may also assist with training new staff, overseeing complex cleaning assignments, and ensuring compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.

Essential Functions

• Performs advanced floor care, including stripping, waxing, buffing, deep-cleaning carpets, and operating floor maintenance equipment.
• Handles the removal, segregation, and proper disposal of hazardous, infectious, and noninfectious waste, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and hospital policies.
• Executes terminal cleaning and disinfection procedures in high-risk areas such as operating rooms, isolation units, and intensive care areas.
• Trains and mentors new Environmental Services team members, ensuring adherence to proper cleaning techniques, infection control protocols, and safety procedures.
• Assists with special projects, such as construction cleanup, deep cleaning initiatives, and emergency response cleaning efforts.
• Moves, assembles, and adjusts furniture, medical equipment, and floor mats to support department operations and facility needs.
• Monitors and replenishes cleaning supplies, reporting inventory shortages and ensuring proper usage to minimize waste.
• Identifies and reports maintenance and safety concerns, such as damaged flooring, leaks, or malfunctioning equipment, ensuring a prompt response.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
• Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

• 2-4 years of experience in environmental services, housekeeping, custodial work, or healthcare facility maintenance required
• Experience in terminal cleaning, waste management, and advanced floor care techniques in a healthcare setting preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Advanced knowledge of floor care techniques, chemical safety, and infection control protocols.
• Ability to operate and maintain floor cleaning machines, buffers, and other specialized cleaning equipment.
• Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and hospital waste disposal regulations.
• Strong attention to detail in performing specialized cleaning and sanitation tasks.
• Ability to train and mentor new employees, ensuring consistent adherence to hospital cleaning standards.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to interact professionally with staff and visitors.
• Problem-solving skills to identify and address environmental concerns within the facility.

Licenses and Certifications

• Certification in Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) or Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) preferred
