Job summary

Northwest Hardwoods is seeking a Floor Lead to supervise daily lumber yard operations, ensuring safe handling and efficient movement of lumber through the facility. The role emphasizes leadership, communication, and hands-on guidance in a fast-paced environment.

You will work with management to maintain production efficiency, uphold quality standards, and promote a safe workplace while mentoring crew members and coordinating daily tasks.

At Northwest Hardwoods (NWH), you’ll play an important role in keeping our global supply chain moving. As a Floor Lead, you’ll work closely with the lumber yard team to keep daily operations running smoothly, coordinate workflow, and ensure lumber is properly handled, organized, and moved efficiently throughout the facility. You’ll help guide team members, maintain a safe and productive work environment, and keep operations on track to meet daily goals and customer needs.

Requirements

What You’ll Do:

• Interface with departments daily/weekly to ensure tasks are accomplished and objectives are met
• Demonstrate leadership, big picture thinking, accountability, time management and problem-solving skills
• Maintain quality of log inventory, rotation, sorting, and the efficiency of log flow necessary to meet demands
• Manage the operation, maintenance, and service of yard
• Work with Managers and other supervisors to optimize productivity and reduce inefficiencies
• Assure safe workplace practices are followed and promote safety awareness through leading by example
• Actively manage and reduce downtime through quick analysis of options and orchestrating solutions
• Supervise, train, direct, and coordinate work of the department’s crew
• Effectively manage crew work time and duties during production, breakdowns, and emergencies
• Manage scheduled time off, unexpected absences, and modified duty of crew
• Spearhead interviews, selection of new hires and onboarding for floor personnel
• Recognize, participate in, and recommend crew commendation, corrective, disciplinary and discharge actions
• Manage order processing through selection/pulling order, fabrication and loading while maintaining our high standard of quality control and safety
• Prioritize orders and yard/fabrication logistics through a constantly evolving environment
• Improve efficiencies and workflows
• Foster clear communication

We’re looking for someone who is hardworking, dependable, safety-minded, and has strong leadership and communication skills. Someone who enjoys hands-on, physically active work, takes initiative, and can effectively guide a team while keeping lumber yard operations running safely, smoothly, and efficiently.

Required:

• Must be 18 years of age
• Available to work Monday – Thursday (10 hour days/30 minute lunch)
• Schedule flexibility during holiday weeks
• Lumber Yard/Sawmill experience
