Job summary

Tri-County Community Action Agency in Villas, NJ seeks a Floating Teacher Assistant to support Head Start classrooms by assisting the Head Teacher in planning and delivering developmentally appropriate educational activities for young children.

You will observe and document children's growth, help maintain attendance records, participate in weekly staff meetings, and assist with home visits and parent involvement as requested by the Teacher.

Qualifications

• Must have a CDA or enroll immediately in CDA program or coursework toward higher credentials.
• Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
• Must have a car available daily and be able to read/write for records.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Teacher in planning and delivering developmentally appropriate activities.
• Observe, document, and monitor children's growth and development; record observations.
• Support administrative duties and attendance records in the classroom.
• Assume Teacher responsibilities when the Teacher is absent.
• Prepare and maintain classroom records and in-kind documentation monthly.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and family involvement activities.
• Coordinate classroom volunteers and assist with home visits and conferences as requested.
• Undertake any Head Start tasks delegated by Teacher or management.

Job Function

Assist the Head or Group Teacher in carrying out those activities which will insure that the classroom meets with the Head Start Performance Standards and State Licensing Regulations.

Essential Functions

1. The Floating Teacher Assistant will be available to assist in all centers with assisting the teacher in planning and implementing educational activities in the classroom and interact with children in a developmentally appropriate manner. Assist the Teacher in the development and implementation of individualized plans for children.
2. Assist the Teacher in observing, screening, assessing, and documenting children's growth and development. Document observations and individual activities in blue books.
3. Assist in carrying out administrative duties as delegated by the teacher.
4. Assume Teacher responsibilities in the absence of the Teacher.
5. Prepare and maintain appropriate records or reports. This may include maintaining daily attendance record of children and managing records of classroom in-kind. Submit accurate records of in-kind on a monthly basis.
6. Participate in weekly Center staff meetings and all other meetings as requested. Attend training and workshops.
7. Encourage and coordinate parent and volunteer involvement. Accompany Teacher in making educational Home Visits and Parent/Teacher conferences as requested by Teacher. Coordinate classroom volunteer program.
8. Any other Head Start task as delegated by Teacher or management

Qualifications

• Must have a Child Development Associate (CDA) or enroll immediately in CDA program or immediately enroll in early childhood coursework leading to an associate or bachelor degree.
• Must have a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Must have a car available on a daily basis.
• Must be able to read and write sufficiently to maintain proper records.
