Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality instruction to students in the absence of the regular classroom teacher, ensuring continuity of learning.
  • Implement lesson plans left by the classroom teacher and adapt instruction as needed to meet student needs.
  • Maintain a positive, structured, and safe classroom environment aligned with district and school expectations.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, as daily assignments may vary by grade level, content area, or building location.
  • Be willing and able to work throughout the district, as assignments may require placement in different schools or classrooms.
  • Establish rapport quickly with students and staff to ensure smooth transitions and productive learning environments.
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively using school-wide expectations and restorative practices.
  • Communicate relevant information regarding student progress, behavior, and completed work to the regular classroom teacher.
  • Support differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including students with IEPs, 504 plans, English learners, and other specialized supports.
  • Follow all district policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Collaborate with administrators, teachers, and support staff as needed.
  • Attend and actively participate in all required staff meetings, professional development sessions, institute days, and Parent-Teacher conferences.

Job Summary:

The Floating Teacher will instruct students and facilitate their learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The Floating Teacher must demonstrate flexibility as they may have a different assignment each day. The Floating Teacher will be a full-time member of the staff and will be required to attend all staff meetings, professional development, and Parent-Teacher conferences.

Qualifications:

Professional Educator License (PEL) or eligible for an appropriate license

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Staff.

Terms of Employment:

This is a 9-month position - salary and benefits established by the Board of Education. The position retains the Harvard Education Association membership and is part of the Collective Bargaining Unit.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands of this position include frequent sitting and standing for extended periods of time. Repetitive bending at the waist, as well as kneeling, stooping, and crouching to assist students, is also required. Regularly walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $44,500 to $78,850 salary
