Job summary

BlueCore Energy in Long Beach, CA is seeking a Grid Interconnection & Permitting Lead to own the path from initial interconnection application to energization, coordinating with utilities such as SCE and regulators to secure permits for the company’s floating nuclear power plants.

You will collaborate with engineering and the Licensing and Certification team to shape electrical design, plan subsea cable connections, and prepare for licensing from day one, while partnering with business

Qualifications

• 5+ years in nuclear or maritime licensing, utility work, or energy project development.
• Knowledge of interconnection procedures (CAISO, SCE) and regulatory requirements behind them.
• Proven ability to build relationships with utilities and regulators and drive permits to completion.
• Solid understanding of power systems, including one-line diagrams, protection, relaying, and grid code requirements.
• Experience developing emergency response or continuity plans for energy infrastructure.
• Strong written communication; experience with filings for utilities/regulators.

Responsibilities

• Own the grid interconnection process from initial application through interconnection agreement and energization.
• Develop and maintain relationships with utilities, grid operators, port authorities, and agencies as the main point of contact.
• Become the in-house expert on regulations, tariffs, and technical requirements for grid connection in regions of operation.
• Participate in design reviews and provide input on the plant's electrical design and grid code compliance.
• Lead permitting and design input for subsea and shoreside cable connections between the barge and onshore grid.
• Develop emergency plans for events that could disconnect the plant from the grid.
• Support broader emergency planning with Licensing and Certification, operations, utility, and emergency responders.
• Collaborate with business development to assess future ports and scale interconnection playbooks.
