Job summary

Jefferson Center for Mental Health seeks a Residential Counselor Float to provide direct care and crisis intervention across residential programs, including youth and adult services. The role demands flexibility to cover day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts with trauma-informed care at the core.

You will work with multidisciplinary teams to support stabilization and recovery, with responsibilities spanning documentation, activity planning, and coordination of referrals.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related field (psychology, counseling, human services, or social work).
• One year of documented work experience in behavioral health preferred; alternatives include high school diploma with one year in human services.

Responsibilities

• Provides milieu management, safety, stability, and direction to clients in early recovery from a trauma-informed lens.
• Maintains consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Interacts with clients to de-escalate potentially dangerous situations.
• Performs required shift notes and clinical documentation.
• Monitors clients’ vital signs and administers BP assessments when Nurse is unavailable.
• Assists with planning and supervision of activities, groups, visits, and life skills.
• Facilitates psychoeducation groups and coordinates treatment referrals.
• Adheres to trauma-informed care during all interactions and maintains compliance with regulatory standards.
