Location: 125 East 181st Street Bronx NY 10453 / 2641 Grand Concourse Bronx NY 10468
Hours: Up to 20 hours/Week; Non-Exempt
Schedule: School Year / September - June / Monday - Friday, 2pm to 6pm
Salary: $17.50 - $18.50 / hour
Job Summary: The After School Floater / Group Leader is responsible for the safety, development, management, organization, and planning of their group. This includes educational projects, recreation, arts and crafts, and group activities.
Major Duties:
- Supervise and manage the identified group of participants.
- Engage participants in activities and model appropriate behavior.
- Ensure safety at all times.
- Conduct outreach to promote attendance and participation.
- Support activity instructors and other leaders.
- Develop and facilitate a curriculum promoting creativity, self-expression, mastery, emotional growth, and career exploration, integrating literacy and academic subjects when applicable.
- Build positive relationships with participants, colleagues, and school personnel.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings, including evenings and Saturdays.
- Monitor and uphold program rules and the afterschool model.
- Plan culminating events for participants to showcase their activities and learning.
- Organize parent and family engagement events.
- Engage with parents professionally.
- Address behavior and safety concerns, documenting as needed.
- Fulfill mandated reporter responsibilities.
- Resolve conflicts within the group, seeking assistance when necessary.
- Foster a positive, strength-based youth development environment.
- Supervise support staff assigned to your group.
- Track and support participants' development and academic success.
- Ensure the safe arrival and dismissal of participants.
- Inspect facilities, equipment, and supplies regularly.
- Work during holidays and OST days as scheduled.
- Maintain records, including attendance.
- Adhere to policies and participate in events and trips.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School/GED diploma and 2 years of related experience in youth group activities.
- Experience in building camp culture and community activities preferred.
- Skills in arts, music, crafts, etc., are a plus.
- Commitment to working with diverse youth and providing high-quality services.
- Dedication to a strength-based, trauma-informed approach.
