Job summary

Planters Bank & Trust Company is seeking a Teller to operate the teller window, provide prompt and accurate customer service, and maintain cash drawer security. The role involves cross-selling bank products and referring customers to appropriate staff.

Responsibilities include handling deposits, cashing checks, balancing cash, and assisting with ATM and vault duties as needed. Travel between offices may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Basic Accounting knowledge.
• Bank experience not required but strongly preferred.
• 6 months of cash handling and balancing money transactions within prior four years.
• Communication skills in dealing with customers and employees.
• Satisfactory Credit Bureau and Background Check Report.
• Equipment: Computer Software, Ten-Key calculator, Photocopier, Telephone, Fax Machine.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a strict standard of confidentiality involving all transactions.
• Promote and maintain positive relations with all contacts, customers and potential customers.
• Comply with all department and company policies and procedures.
• Contribute to the fulfillment of department and company objectives and goals.
• Perform as a team member in allocation and coordinating the work flow.
• May assist in training new employees and answer co-worker questions.
• Will be involved in ordering, receiving, verifying, and distributing cash.
• Operate a tellers window to serve the banks customers by: Accepting deposits, verifying cash and endorsements and giving receipts; Identifies customers and cashes checks or refers to an officer for authorization; Enters transactions into computer and issues receipts; Accepting savings deposits and withdrawals, verifying signatures; Providing Official Checks, Personal Money Orders, Savings Bonds, and Stop Payments; Balances cash daily; Accepting payments for loans.
• May be responsible for bank opening/closing under dual control.
• May be asked to assist in operational and servicing needs of the ATMs.
• May be asked to admit customers to safe deposit boxes.
• Open and close vault under dual control; may assist in vault maintenance.
• Promote the bank's products and services; cross-sell bank products at every opportunity.
• Make a concentrated effort to solve customer problems.
• Observe suspicious behavior and report to head teller and security personnel as appropriate.

Summary:

Operates a Teller window by providing prompt, efficient and accurate customer service, maintains security of a cash drawer; represents the Bank in a courteous, professional manner alert to customer needs, cross-sells bank products, and refers customers to the appropriate staff.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Accepting retail and/or commercial deposits, verifying cash and endorsements and giving customer receipts. Examines cash carefully to guard against acceptance of counterfeit bills.
  • Identifying customers and cashing checks, or referring customers to an officer for authorization to cash checks.
  • Enters transactions into computer and issues customer receipts.
  • Accepting savings deposits and withdrawals, verifying signatures.
  • Providing additional customer services including Official Checks, Personal Money Orders, Savings Bonds, and Stop Payments.
  • Balances cash daily by counting cash at the beginning of shift and balances cash and checks against computer records at the end of the shift.
  • Accepting payments for loans.
• May be responsible for bank opening/closing under dual control.
• May be asked to assist in operational and servicing needs of the ATMs.
• May be asked to admit customers to safe deposit boxes.
• Open and close vault under dual control. May assist in vault maintenance.
• Promote the bank's products and services; consistently cross-sells bank products at every opportunity.
• Make a concentrated effort to solve customer problems.
• Observe suspicious behavior and report any such activity to head teller and/or security personnel as appropriate. In the event of a robbery, remain calm and follow bank procedures to safeguard customers and staff.

This position requires travel. A float teller must be able to travel to a different office on short notice as needed. This position will service the Indianola, Sunflower, Louise, and Inverness offices.
