Responsibilities of the Float Teacher:
  • Establish a classroom environment that promotes the health, safety, and well-being of all children daily.
  • Adhere to all BCH, EEC, and center policies daily, including planning healthy breakfasts and snacks, addressing food allergies per Individual Health Care Plans, and respecting family dietary restrictions.
  • Follow diapering and toileting policies as per Department of Early Education and Care guidelines.
  • Promote equity and inclusion intentionally by making thoughtful teaching decisions and implementing curriculum.
  • Prepare classroom materials and toys daily to support planned curriculum activities.
  • Build trusting relationships with children through intentional play and actions, supporting each child's development, especially in a changing weekly schedule.
  • Support the development of each child's executive functions, including attention, self-regulation, reasoning, and problem-solving.
  • Report any unusual or extreme behavior indicating emotional, developmental, or physical concerns, and assist in implementing interventions as needed.
  • Maintain annual professional qualifications registration with DEEC and complete 20 hours of professional development annually, with at least 25% focused on special needs.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings in accordance with DEEC regulations.
  • Complete mandatory background checks every 3 years, including CORI, SORI, DCF, and fingerprinting.
  • Communicate daily with parents through written notes and spoken updates about each child's day.
  • Remain flexible to support various classroom teams and children across infant to preschool levels, understanding schedules, routines, and individual needs.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma required.
  • Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
  • At least one year of relevant experience.
  • DEEC Infant Teacher Certification.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification.
