Job summary

GI Associates in Wisconsin is seeking a Float Pool RN to support our GI services and maintain high-quality patient care. You will collaborate with physicians and staff to deliver safe pre- and post‑operative care and support our team across GI procedures.

The role emphasizes confidentiality, rapid response to emergencies, documentation, and patient education, with opportunities to grow in GI anatomy and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited RN program with active Wisconsin license.
  • Current BLS certification; ACLS preferred or ability to obtain.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and clinical judgment.
  • Willingness to travel to GI Associates locations as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate to maintain a safe, patient-focused work environment.
  • Assist with pre- and post-operative patient assessment and care.
  • Administer IV conscious sedation under physician guidance.

Position Summary

The float pool RN has the unique opportunity to contribute to a harmonious work environment by providing hands‑on patient care while supporting our team at GI Associates. Our RN maintains and manages our GIA Practice’s clinical operations in a strong team environment and offers the highest quality of care to both patients and family members. This position is an integral part of the foundation at GI Associates, with patients and family members looking to you for the highest quality care in GI.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with GIA and ancillary staff to uphold a safe, friendly work environment and optimize patient care.
  • Collaborate effectively to enhance patient care and foster a supportive team environment.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding patients’ privacy rights.
  • Assume responsibility for assessment and monitoring of patients pre‑ and post‑operative period.
  • Administer IV conscious sedation under the direction of the physician.
  • Complete all medical documentation efficiently and promptly.
  • Recognize and respond to emergency care needs as per policy.
  • Initiate pre‑calls to patients prior to their scheduled procedure to answer questions and collect/analyze patient data to assess procedure appropriateness.
  • Assist intra‑procedure under the direction of the physician.
  • Be knowledgeable of proper handling of equipment and materials (scopes, light sources, and ancillary equipment).
  • Transport patients as needed.
  • Complete daily and monthly emergency cart checks and narcotic/drug counts as per policy.
  • Communicate new and important information to head nurse openly.
  • Communicate any patient or employee issues to manager.
  • Dedicate to comprehensive patient education.
  • Assist with prioritizing STAT, important, and normal patient information/clinical results and provide information to the appropriate staff (physician, triage department, hospital department, etc.).
  • Show eagerness and willingness to learn and grow in the knowledge of GI anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and GI‑related diagnostic procedures and treatments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited RN program.
  • Current RN licensure for the State of Wisconsin.
  • Practice‑based learning and improvement, empathy, and clinical judgment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or the ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or the ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Patient‑care first approach with strong attention to detail.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently to other GI Associates locations as needed to support operational needs.
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills, and ability to handle stressful situations with compassion and professionalism.
Physical & Mental Demands
  • Able to sit, stand, walk, kneel, bend, reach, and stoop throughout entire shift to accomplish tasks.
  • Able to push, pull, lift, and/or move patients in beds or stretchers as part of routine care.
  • Able to work through interruptions, managing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
  • Frequently uses a computer for typing and EMR documentation; requires accurate and efficient data entry abilities.
  • Frequently uses the telephone to contact patients for appointment scheduling, follow‑up care, test results, and other clinical communications.
