Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire date.
• Must meet one of the following: Nationally certified patient care technician; Completion of WVUM Patient Care Technician program; Current CNA certification in the state where services are provided.

Responsibilities

• Observes and reports patient concerns/changes in condition to a registered nurse immediately.
• Assists the Registered Nurse with admission, transfer, discharge and general patient care duties.
• Records vital signs, assists in personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures; records intake and outputs.
• Assists in specimen collection and other activities of assigned patients.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment to help prevent and/or control infections and to provide safety for patients, visitors and staff.
• Reports equipment repairs to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
• Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures.
• Communicates with RN regarding nutrition issues and understanding of diet changes.
• Assists department with administrative tasks to support operations.
• Answers patient call bell and relays messages to appropriate personnel.
