Job summary

The Toledo Clinic, Inc. is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform venipuncture and capillary puncture on patients under the supervision of the Administrative Laboratory Manager. The role requires accuracy in specimen collection, proper labeling, and adherence to HIPAA and clinic safety policies.

Travel to satellite locations is required to support drawing opportunities. Candidates should have a phlebotomy diploma from an accredited school; one to two years of phlebotomist experience; and

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and capillary puncture on patients.
• Obtains the proper specimen for test(s) ordered and properly labels specimens.
• Instructs patients on specimen collection and records pertinent information.
• Registers patients and handles HIPAA documentation in accordance with clinic policies.
• Travels to satellite locations to support drawing opportunities.
• Maintains a safe, clean work environment and adheres to OSHA safety standards.

General Summary

Performs venipuncture and capillary puncture on patients.

Works under the supervision of the Administrative Laboratory Manager.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Consistently arrives at work on time and adheres to regular work schedule.
• Asks and records pertinent information (such as hours patient has been fasting) or for drug levels records the time of the patient’s last dosage.
• Obtains the proper specimen for test(s) ordered.
• Properly labels all specimens.
• Properly instructs patients on specimen collection.
• Must be able to Register Patients.
• Must be able to scan ABN, Billing and HIPPA documentation.
• Knows, understands and adheres to HIPPA policies.
• Knows, understands and adheres to all laboratory, Clinic and/or OSHA safety standards.
• Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
• Drive to Satellite locations and be available for any other drawing opportunity.
• Must know all aspects of each satellite location, what needs to accomplished and know it needs to be completed.

Other Essential Duties May Include but Are Not Limited To

• Correctly processes specimens which will include use of centrifuge and make sure STAT specimens are processed correctly.
