Job summary

Iconma,-Llc. is seeking a Phlebotomist for a float position in Austin, TX. You will perform venipuncture, collect and process specimens, and ensure accurate labeling and data entry while adhering to safety regulations.

This role requires a valid Phlebotomy certification and 0–2 years of experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting, with onsite travel to multiple sites as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
  • 0–2 years’ venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital.

  • Assist in performing duties, troubleshoot, train and improve workflow.
  • Collect and store specimens according to procedures.
  • Explain venipuncture process clearly and courteously.
  • Demonstrate technique with straight or butterfly needles.
  • Match requisitions to specimen tubes and label correctly.
  • Package specimens for transport and maintain specimen integrity.
  • Perform data entry of patient information accurately
  • Travel to additional sites when needed

Job description

Our client, a Clinical Laboratory, is looking for a Phlebotomist for a float position in Austin, TX.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making workflow recommendations.
  • Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
  • Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required.
  • Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.
  • Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct.
  • Package specimens for transport.
  • Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
  • Perform blood collections by venipuncture and capillary techniques for all age groups
  • Collect specimens for drug screens, paternity tests, alcohol tests etc.
  • Perform data entry of patient information in an accurate and timely manner
  • Process billing information and collecting payments when required
  • Prepare all collected specimens for testing and analysis
  • Maintain patient and specimen information logs
  • Provide superior customer service to all patients
  • Administrative and clerical duties as necessary
  • Travel to additional sites when needed
Requirements:
  • Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states.
  • Minimum of 0-2 years' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED
